King & Queen of Southern Maine Pride competition is open to any person, regardless of sex or gender, who is of minimum age (18 years), and has not previously held the title of King or Queen of SMP.

| The King may be a man or a woman personifying a man. |
| The Queen may be a woman or a man personifying a woman. |
