Parade Route Monitors
There are 22 locations along the Parade route. Portland Police Department requires that each location must be staffed with 2 volunteers each, during the Parade.
Job - Working in pairs and wearing safety vests, you will be assigned a cross street or feeder street. Barricades will have been pre-placed on the sidewalk. You will errect the barricade and put into place at a specific time. Once the parade has passed your location, you will remove the barricade and return it to the sidewalk the way you found it. After, you may join the Parade and march, or, help carry the "River Of Pride" rainbow flag.
Duties - You will stand guard as the parade passes, making sure vehicles are aware of the parade, vehicles do not try to enter parade route, drivers are explained why the delay and approximately how long the wait will be. You may also be asked directions for an alternate route.
Volunteers will be emailed more specific details.
"River Of Pride" Rainbow Flag Carriers
The Rainbow Flag is 900 feet long and requires 300 volunteers. This iconic symbol of gay pride is scheduled to be the tail of the Southern Maine Pride Parade, again this year.
Job - Show your pride and help carry the flag.
Duties - Meet at the Lady Victory Statue in Monument Square on Congress Street in downtown Portland by NOON. Wear comfortable shoes. The flag is nylon, so it is not heavy, but needs to be held firmly by hand, in the event of wind gusts, etc. We need 150 people per side to accomplish this safely and securely.
Please note, if you are a smoker, we ask you to refrain while marching.
